Description

Classic buttery cheese straws made with sharp cheddar and a hint of paprika for subtle warmth. Crisp on the outside and flaky inside, these savory twists are perfect for parties, holidays, or everyday snacking.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 1/2 cups freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine all purpose flour and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese, paprika, and cayenne pepper if using.
  5. Add cold water one tablespoon at a time, mixing just until the dough comes together.
  6. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap, and chill for 20 minutes.
  7. Roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  8. Cut into thin strips and gently twist each strip.
  9. Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
