Description

Tender sweet and sour braised red cabbage simmered with apples and onions in a tangy apple cider vinegar sauce. This vibrant side dish is perfectly balanced and ideal for holiday tables or everyday meals.


Ingredients

  • 1 large head red cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 large apple, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced onion and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in sliced red cabbage and apple and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, and water. Stir to combine.
  5. Cover and simmer on low heat for 40 to 50 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  7. Serve warm.
