Description

Soft and fluffy sourdough breakfast buns filled with scrambled eggs and melted cheddar cheese. These homemade buns are perfect for brunch, meal prep, or cozy weekend mornings.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cooked scrambled eggs
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine active sourdough starter, warm milk, melted butter, egg, and salt.
  2. Gradually add all purpose flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover and let rise at room temperature for 4 to 6 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces.
  6. Flatten each piece and place a spoonful of cooked scrambled eggs and shredded cheddar cheese in the center.
  7. Pinch the dough closed to seal and shape into buns.
  8. Place seam side down on a parchment lined baking sheet and let rise for 1 to 2 hours.
  9. Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake for 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use an active bubbly starter for best rise.
  • Do not overfill the buns.
  • Allow full rise time for fluffy texture.
