Description

Festive Santa cookies made from soft buttery sugar cookie dough and decorated with royal icing for a cheerful holiday treat.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Red food coloring a few drops
  • 24 mini candy pieces for noses

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  4. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix into wet ingredients.
  5. Chill dough 30 minutes. Roll to 1/4 inch thickness and cut shapes.
  6. Bake 8 to 10 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool completely.
  7. Beat egg whites with lemon juice, gradually add powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  8. Tint part of icing red. Pipe decorations and add candy noses. Let icing set fully before serving.

  • Chill dough to prevent spreading.
  • Let cookies cool before icing.
  • Store in airtight container.
