- 1 large ham steak, about 1 pound, thick cut
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Place a large skillet over medium heat.
- In a small bowl, mix together the pure maple syrup, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and freshly ground black pepper until combined.
- Add the unsalted butter to the skillet and let it melt completely.
- Place the ham steak in the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side until lightly browned.
- Pour the maple glaze mixture over the ham steak and allow it to simmer for 3 to 5 minutes, spooning the glaze over the top as it thickens.
- Continue cooking until the glaze becomes glossy and slightly caramelized.
- Remove from heat, let it rest briefly, then spoon extra glaze over the top before serving.
Notes
- Cook over medium heat to prevent the sugars in the glaze from burning.
- Spoon the glaze continuously over the ham for even coating and shine.
- Let the ham rest for a few minutes before slicing to retain its juices.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
