Description

Juicy and caramelized, this Maple Glazed Ham Steak is coated in a glossy maple and mustard glaze that perfectly balances sweet and savory flavors. Ready in just 20 minutes, it makes a comforting main dish for weeknights or special brunch gatherings.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 large ham steak, about 1 pound, thick cut
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the pure maple syrup, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and freshly ground black pepper until combined.
  3. Add the unsalted butter to the skillet and let it melt completely.
  4. Place the ham steak in the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side until lightly browned.
  5. Pour the maple glaze mixture over the ham steak and allow it to simmer for 3 to 5 minutes, spooning the glaze over the top as it thickens.
  6. Continue cooking until the glaze becomes glossy and slightly caramelized.
  7. Remove from heat, let it rest briefly, then spoon extra glaze over the top before serving.

Notes

  • Cook over medium heat to prevent the sugars in the glaze from burning.
  • Spoon the glaze continuously over the ham for even coating and shine.
  • Let the ham rest for a few minutes before slicing to retain its juices.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
