- 1 pound (450 grams) ground beef, 80 percent lean
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 slices cheddar cheese (about 80 grams total)
- 4 burger buns
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 1 large tomato, sliced into 4 thick rounds
- 1 small white onion, sliced into rings
- 4 tablespoons ketchup
- 4 teaspoons mustard
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet or grill pan over medium high heat.
- Form the ground beef into 4 equal patties and season both sides with salt and black pepper.
- Lightly oil the pan if needed.
- Cook patties for 3 to 4 minutes per side. Add a slice of cheddar cheese during the last minute to melt.
- Ensure the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Toast the burger buns lightly until golden.
- Spread ketchup and mustard on the buns. Layer lettuce, tomato, onion, and the cheesy patty. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Do not press the patties while cooking to keep them juicy.
- Let patties rest for a few minutes before assembling.
- Use room temperature cheese for better melting.
