A juicy homemade cheeseburger with a perfectly seasoned beef patty, melted cheddar cheese, crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, and toasted buns. Classic, comforting, and ready in just 25 minutes.

- 1 pound ground beef (80 percent lean)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 burger buns
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 1 small white onion, thinly sliced
- 4 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons mustard
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Preheat a large skillet or grill pan over medium high heat.
- Shape the ground beef into 4 equal patties and season both sides with salt and black pepper.
- Place the patties in the hot skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and allow it to melt.
- Spread butter on the inside of the buns and toast them in a separate pan until golden.
- Spread ketchup and mustard on the toasted buns.
- Layer lettuce, the cheesy patty, tomato slices, and onion, then top with the other half of the bun.
- Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- Do not press down on the patties while cooking to keep them juicy.
- Let the patties rest for 2 minutes before assembling.
- Use room temperature cheese for better melting.
