Description

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, salt, and cold butter. Rub together until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  3. Press the mixture evenly into a 9 inch tart pan, covering the base and sides.
  4. Bake the crust for 15 to 18 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool completely.
  5. In a heavy bottom saucepan over medium heat, melt 1 cup granulated sugar until it turns deep amber in color.
  6. Carefully stir in 1/2 cup butter until melted and combined.
  7. Slowly pour in heavy cream while whisking continuously. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until smooth, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  8. Pour the caramel into the cooled crust and spread evenly.
  9. Sprinkle chopped mixed nuts over the caramel layer.
  10. Drizzle with melted dark chocolate if using.
  11. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until fully set before slicing and serving.
