Description
Classic, melt-in-your-mouth butter cookies with crisp edges and tender centers, perfect for gifting, tea time, or holiday baking.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream: In a mixing bowl, cream 1 cup room-temperature unsalted butter and 3/4 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Bind: Beat in 1 large egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth and combined.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour with 1/4 teaspoon salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and combine until just incorporated.
- Shape: Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip or form small balls and place them on prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden and centers are set.
- Cool and Serve: Let cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Use high-quality European-style butter for the richest flavor.
- Chill the dough for 30 minutes if the dough seems too soft to hold shape while piping.
- For sparkle, sprinkle a little granulated sugar on top before baking.
- Store baked cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 10 days or freeze for longer storage.
