- 2 cans (5 ounces each) canned tuna, drained
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup celery, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons red onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 slices sandwich bread
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat until evenly warm.
- In a mixing bowl, combine drained tuna, mayonnaise, celery, red onion, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper. Mix until creamy but slightly textured.
- Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.
- Place two slices of bread butter side down in the skillet. Spread the tuna mixture evenly over each slice and top with cheddar cheese. Cover with remaining bread slices, butter side up.
- Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until bread is golden brown and cheese is fully melted.
- Remove from heat and let rest for 1 minute before slicing.
- Slice in half and serve warm.
Notes
- Cook over medium heat to allow the cheese to melt without burning the bread.
- Use freshly shredded cheese for smoother melting.
- The tuna mixture can be prepared up to 2 days ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
