Description
A classic Italian dessert layered with espresso-soaked ladyfingers, creamy mascarpone filling, and a dusting of cocoa powder. Tiramisu is rich yet airy, perfectly balanced with sweetness and a touch of coffee bitterness.
Ingredients
- Ladyfingers: About 24 pieces, lightly crisp biscuits that absorb the coffee perfectly.
- Espresso or Strong Coffee: 1 ½ cups, cooled completely, used to soak the ladyfingers.
- Mascarpone Cheese: 1 cup, creamy Italian cheese for rich flavor.
- Heavy Whipping Cream: 1 cup, whipped to soft peaks for a light texture.
- Egg Yolks: 4 large, for the smooth custard base.
- Granulated Sugar: ½ cup, adds sweetness to the cream mixture.
- Cocoa Powder: 2 tablespoons, for dusting the top.
- Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon, enhances flavor depth.
- Salt: A pinch, balances the sweetness.
Instructions
- Prepare the Cream: Whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and thick. Add mascarpone and vanilla, then fold in whipped cream until smooth.
- Prepare the Coffee: Pour espresso into a shallow dish and let it cool completely.
- Layer the Dessert: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee and place in a dish. Spread half of the mascarpone cream over it, then repeat layers.
- Chill: Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight for best results.
- Serve: Dust with cocoa powder just before serving and slice into squares.
Notes
- Don’t oversoak the ladyfingers; a quick dip is enough.
- Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor.
- For a lighter version, skip the egg yolks and use more whipped cream.
