Description

Sear the perfect steak right in your kitchen with this simple, flavorful method that delivers a crispy crust and juicy interior every time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Ribeye Steak (1012 oz, 1 to 1.5 inches thick)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Freshly Cracked Black Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Canola Oil
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 Garlic Cloves, smashed
  • 1 sprig Fresh Rosemary

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat for at least 5 minutes until very hot.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Season steak generously with salt and pepper. Let rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Add canola oil to the skillet and swirl to coat the bottom.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Carefully place the steak in the hot skillet. Do not move it for 2–3 minutes to form a crust.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Flip and cook another 2–3 minutes. Add butter, garlic, and rosemary. Baste steak for 1 minute with the melted butter.
  6. Finishing Touches: Check internal temperature (130°F for medium-rare). Transfer to a cutting board and loosely cover with foil.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Rest for 5–7 minutes, slice against the grain, and serve with sides of choice.

Notes

  • Let steak come to room temp for even cooking.
  • Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
  • Don’t skip the resting step for juicy results.
  • Swap rosemary with thyme or sage for variation.
