Description

Texas Toast Sloppy Joes are the ultimate comfort food made with buttery, crispy Texas toast piled high with saucy seasoned beef and melted cheese. Each bite combines rich, hearty flavors and satisfying textures, making it perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 slices Texas toast
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion, green pepper, and garlic. Cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  5. Meanwhile, toast the Texas toast in the oven for 5 minutes until golden.
  6. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture evenly over each slice of toast.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top of each piece.
  8. Broil for 1–2 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Serve hot with pickles or fries on the side.
