Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 large potatoes – sliced into thick matchsticks (French fries)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp taco seasoning
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (for cheese sauce)
  • 1 tsp taco seasoning (for cheese sauce)
  • 1 tsp cumin (for cheese sauce)
  • 10 slices yellow American cheese
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • Sour cream (garnish)
  • Pickled jalapeños (garnish)
  • Scallions (garnish)
  • Taco Bell hot sauce of choice (garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 10 minutes while prepping the ingredients.
  2. Place the sliced potatoes in a bowl, wash and drain them. Drizzle with oil, season with salt and pepper, and toss to coat.
  3. Air fry the potatoes at 380°F (193°C) for 10–12 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  4. In a saucepan, melt the butter. Add smoked paprika, taco seasoning, and cumin. Cook for 30 seconds.
  5. Lower the heat and add milk, followed by the cheese slices. Stir until fully melted into a velvety sauce. Turn off heat and set aside.
  6. In a small bowl, combine cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, taco seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  7. Transfer the cooked fries to a bowl and sprinkle the seasoning mix over them. Toss to coat evenly.
  8. Place the seasoned fries in a serving bowl. Drizzle with the warm cheese sauce.
  9. Top with sour cream, pickled jalapeños, scallions, and Taco Bell hot sauce.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can bake or deep fry the potatoes if you don’t have an air fryer.
  • For a spicier cheese sauce, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or diced jalapeños.
  • Velveeta can be used in place of American cheese for extra creaminess.
  • Reheat cheese sauce gently on the stovetop with a splash of milk if it thickens too much.
