Description

Hearty and flavorful spicy bean burgers with a golden crisp exterior and a tender, well-seasoned interior. Packed with black beans, warm spices, and fresh toppings, these burgers are satisfying, budget-friendly, and perfect for weeknight dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cans (15 ounces each) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 burger buns, lightly toasted
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat a nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mash the black beans with a fork, leaving some texture. Stir in breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, eggs, cumin, chili powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until fully combined.
  3. Add olive oil to the warm skillet and allow it to heat gently.
  4. Shape the mixture into 4 even patties and carefully place them into the skillet.
  5. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side until golden brown and heated through.
  6. Lightly toast the burger buns if not already done and prepare the lettuce and tomato slices.
  7. Assemble each burger by placing a patty on a bun and topping with lettuce and tomato. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Chill the formed patties for 15 minutes before cooking if the mixture feels soft.
  • Do not over mash the beans to keep a pleasant texture.
  • Cook over medium heat to prevent burning while ensuring the center heats through.
  • These patties can be frozen for up to 2 months and reheated in a skillet.
