Description

These South Carolina Bird Dog Sandwiches bring together crispy fried chicken tenders, melted cheddar cheese, and sweet-tangy honey mustard all tucked inside soft, toasted buns. A true Southern comfort classic perfect for lunches, picnics, or game days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 chicken tenders, fried until golden and crispy
  • 4 hot dog buns, lightly toasted
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese, melted over chicken
  • 1/3 cup honey mustard, for drizzling
  • 1 tablespoon butter, for toasting buns
  • Pickles (optional), for garnish
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your skillet over medium heat and oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix honey and mustard in a small bowl until smooth.
  3. Butter the buns and place them on a baking sheet to toast.
  4. Place fried chicken tenders into each toasted bun and top with a slice of cheddar cheese.
  5. Return to the oven for 2–3 minutes, until the cheese melts perfectly.
  6. Drizzle honey mustard on top and add pickles if desired.
  7. Serve hot with fries, chips, or a side salad.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, use grilled chicken instead of fried.
  • Add extra honey mustard for more flavor.
  • Use fresh buns for the best texture.
