Description

Juicy meatballs served with a rich and savory brown gravy, reminiscent of classic Salisbury steak.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and shape into 12 meatballs.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, about 6-8 minutes. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt the butter and add the flour. Stir for 1 minute to create a roux.
  4. Slowly add the beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add the soy sauce and dried thyme, and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  5. Return the meatballs to the skillet and coat them in the gravy. Simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes until the meatballs are fully cooked through.
  6. Serve the Salisbury steak meatballs hot with the gravy over mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add sautéed mushrooms to the gravy.
  • If you prefer a thicker gravy, add more flour to the roux or let the gravy simmer longer.
  • This recipe can be doubled or halved depending on how many servings you need.
