Description

A comforting baked dish made with thinly sliced potatoes layered in a creamy garlic sauce and finished with melted cheese until golden and tender.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups gruyere cheese, grated
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly butter a medium baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Arrange a thin layer of sliced potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish.
  4. Spoon some of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with grated cheese.
  5. Repeat layering potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese until all ingredients are used.
  6. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and continue baking for 25 minutes until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
  8. Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Slice potatoes evenly for consistent cooking.
  • Let the dish rest before serving so the layers can set.
  • Freshly grated cheese melts more smoothly than pre shredded.
