Description

Creamy, buttery, and irresistibly fluffy, these mashed potatoes are the ultimate comfort food side dish. Perfect for holidays or cozy dinners any night of the week.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon salt (for boiling water)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cut into chunks
  • ¾ cup whole milk, warmed
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: chopped chives or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add salt. Bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer for 15–20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  3. Drain well and return to pot. Let them sit for 2–3 minutes to release steam.
  4. Mash until smooth using a potato masher or ricer.
  5. Stir in butter, warm milk, and sour cream until fully combined and creamy.
  6. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Use warm milk and butter to keep potatoes hot and smooth.
  • Don’t overmix or mash with a blender—it’ll turn gluey.
  • For extra flavor, stir in roasted garlic or shredded cheese.
