Description

Light, crisp, and melt-in-your-mouth, these classic meringue cookies are made from just a few simple ingredients. Perfect for holidays, gifts, or an elegant sweet treat any time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°F (95°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean, dry bowl, beat the egg whites on medium speed until foamy. Add cream of tartar and salt.
  3. Gradually add the sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while beating on high speed until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  4. Gently fold in the vanilla extract.
  5. Transfer the mixture into a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  6. Pipe small swirls onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  7. Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours until dry and crisp.
  8. Turn off the oven and let the cookies sit inside for another hour to dry completely.
  9. Cool fully before storing in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Ensure no yolk gets into the whites to achieve perfect peaks.
  • Use superfine sugar for a smoother meringue if available.
  • Avoid making these on humid days to maintain crispness.
  • Customize with different extracts or food coloring for special occasions.
