Description

A classic Italian-American comfort dish made with juicy sausage, tender bell peppers, and caramelized onions simmered together in a light tomato sauce. Perfect for sandwiches, pasta, or a cozy family meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds Italian sausage links
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish


Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add sausage links and brown on all sides for about 5 to 6 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, sauté sliced onions and peppers until soft and caramelized, about 8 minutes.
  4. Add minced garlic, crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  5. Return sausages to the pan, cover, and simmer on low for 10 minutes until everything is tender and flavorful.
  6. Garnish with fresh basil and serve hot in rolls, over pasta, or with crusty bread.

  • For extra flavor, deglaze the pan with a splash of broth or balsamic vinegar.
  • Use a mix of red, green, and yellow peppers for color variety.
