Description

A warm, comforting bread that combines the flavors of apple pie with the soft texture of freshly baked bread, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 cups apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and sour cream.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped apples and lemon juice. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture over the top of the batter. If using, sprinkle the chopped walnuts or pecans on top as well.
  7. Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • This bread can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • For an extra touch, drizzle with a glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.
  • Feel free to add more spices or raisins for variation.
