Description

Homemade Clam Chowder is a rich and creamy soup loaded with tender clams, potatoes, and savory bacon. This classic New England-style chowder offers a comforting, hearty meal perfect for chilly days.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 2 cups clam juice or broth
  • 2 cans (6.5 oz each) chopped clams, with juice
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, cook bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon and set aside, leaving drippings in pot.
  2. Add onion and garlic to the pot; sauté until softened.
  3. Sprinkle flour over onions and cook, stirring, for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Slowly whisk in clam juice and bring to a simmer.
  5. Add diced potatoes and cook until tender, about 15 minutes.
  6. Stir in clams with their juice and heavy cream. Heat gently without boiling.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve topped with crispy bacon and fresh parsley.

Notes

  • Use fresh clams if available for extra flavor.
  • For a thicker chowder, add more flour or reduce liquid slightly.
  • Serve with crusty bread or oyster crackers.
