Description

Fluffy, golden savory scones packed with diced ham, sharp cheddar cheese, and fresh chives. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a cozy side to soups and salads, these tender scones deliver buttery layers and rich, cheesy flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup cooked ham, diced
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in diced ham, shredded cheese, and chopped chives.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk and egg until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape into a 1 inch thick circle. Cut into 8 wedges.
  5. Place wedges onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Keep the butter very cold for the best flaky texture.
  • Do not overmix the dough to prevent dense scones.
  • Grate your own cheese for better melting and flavor.
  • Scones can be frozen after baking for up to 2 months.
