Description
Fluffy, golden savory scones packed with diced ham, sharp cheddar cheese, and fresh chives. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a cozy side to soups and salads, these tender scones deliver buttery layers and rich, cheesy flavor in every bite.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup cooked ham, diced
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in diced ham, shredded cheese, and chopped chives.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together milk and egg until smooth.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape into a 1 inch thick circle. Cut into 8 wedges.
- Place wedges onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Keep the butter very cold for the best flaky texture.
- Do not overmix the dough to prevent dense scones.
- Grate your own cheese for better melting and flavor.
- Scones can be frozen after baking for up to 2 months.
