Description

A chilled layered Filipino dessert made with creamy custard, whipped cream, crushed graham crackers, and colorful fruit cocktail, perfect for holidays and family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups fruit cocktail, well drained
  • 1 cup heavy cream, whipped to soft peaks
  • 1 cup all purpose cream
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups graham crackers, crushed finely
  • 1 cup peach slices and cherries, for topping


Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together milk, egg yolks, and cornstarch until smooth. Cook over medium heat while stirring constantly until thickened.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract. Allow the custard to cool completely.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine whipped heavy cream and all purpose cream gently until smooth and airy.
  4. Lightly grease an 8 by 8 inch glass dish.
  5. Spread a layer of crushed graham crackers at the bottom of the dish.
  6. Add a layer of custard mixture, followed by a layer of fruit cocktail.
  7. Repeat the layers, finishing with the cream mixture on top.
  8. Decorate with peach slices and cherries.
  9. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the fruit cocktail is thoroughly drained to avoid excess moisture.
  • Chill overnight for cleaner slices and better flavor development.
  • Use a sharp knife dipped in warm water for neat serving portions.
