Description

A warm, melty, comforting Cheese and Onion Sandwich made with cheddar, thin sliced onions, and golden toasted bread for the perfect quick meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon softened butter
  • 1 teaspoon mayonnaise (optional)
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet or grill pan over medium heat.
  2. Combine shredded cheese, sliced onions, and a pinch of pepper in a bowl.
  3. Lightly butter the skillet or brush it with oil.
  4. Spread mayonnaise on bread slices if using, then add the cheese and onion mixture and top with the second slice.
  5. Cook the sandwich for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden and melty.
  6. Let the sandwich rest for 30 seconds so the filling settles.
  7. Slice and enjoy warm.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated cheese for the smoothest melt.
  • Toast on medium heat to avoid burning the bread.
  • Thin onion slices help the flavors blend better.
