- 1 pound pizza dough, divided into 3 portions
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/2 pound ground beef, cooked and seasoned
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large egg, beaten
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine mozzarella, ricotta, cooked ground beef, pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
- Divide pizza dough into 3 equal pieces and roll each into a 7 inch circle.
- Spoon filling onto one half of each dough circle, leaving a border around the edge.
- Fold dough over filling, press edges together firmly, and crimp with a fork to seal. Cut a small slit on top of each.
- Brush each calzone with beaten egg.
- Bake for 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Do not overfill to prevent leaking during baking.
- Let the dough rest at room temperature before rolling for easier shaping.
- Reheat leftovers in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 10 minutes to maintain crispness.
- Calzones can be frozen before baking for up to 2 months.
