Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) and grease an 8 inch round cake pan.
- Cream softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix just until combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top evenly.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
