- 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, heavy cream, and butter.
- Bring to a gentle boil, stirring constantly. Let simmer for 3–5 minutes until thickened slightly.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Sauce will thicken more as it cools.
- Store in a jar or airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Reheat before using.
Notes
- For salted caramel, increase salt to 1/4 teaspoon or use salted butter.
- Add a splash of bourbon for a grown-up twist.
