Description

A mashup of two classics, Big Mac Sloppy Joes combine saucy ground beef, melty cheese, pickles, shredded lettuce, and a tangy special sauce served on toasted sesame buns for a messy, nostalgic, crowd-pleasing sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 1/2 cup dill pickles, chopped
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 4 sesame seed buns, toasted
  • 1/2 cup special sauce (made from mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, white vinegar, onion powder, paprika)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and have measuring tools ready.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add ground beef, diced onion, and minced garlic to the hot skillet. Brown the beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, and cook until onions are soft. Season with salt and black pepper.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Reduce the heat to medium and stir in half of the special sauce. Let the mixture simmer gently for about 5 minutes so the beef absorbs the flavors.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Place slices of American cheese over the hot beef in the skillet, cover briefly so the cheese melts, then stir the cheese into the beef until creamy and evenly combined.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Simmer an additional 1 to 2 minutes to reach desired sauciness, adjusting heat so the mixture is hot but not dry.
  6. Finishing Touches: Toast sesame seed buns. Spread the remaining special sauce on the bottom buns. Top with a generous scoop of the beef mixture, chopped pickles, and shredded lettuce.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Cap with the top bun and serve immediately while hot, pairing with fries or a crisp side if desired.

Notes

  • Toast buns before assembling to prevent sogginess.
  • Reheat leftover beef gently on the stovetop with a splash of water to loosen the sauce.
  • Double the special sauce and serve extra on the side for dipping.
  • Use freshly shredded cheese for the best melt and creaminess.
